The
Peace Gardens Movement had been in existence for 11
years. During this period it contributed significantly to the
evolution of South African society.Circumstances have changed
a great deal since its founding, however, and a new direction is
now required. In the light of these developments the steering
committee was disbanded on the 26th of October 2002.
There were still useful resources available at the SANSOR
Secretariat in the form of guides to production of agronomic
crops and vegetables for emerging farmers, as well as a database
of cooperators.
A sum of money was also donated to SANSOR by a foreign
benefactor for use in the kind of project with which Peace
Gardens had been associated.
A new development initiative in line with current government
policy had been developed by the SANSOR Board of Directors and
would be recommended to the SANSOR General Assembly during its
Congress in May 2003.
