During
the course of the past year several communications were
circulated from the SANSOR Secretariat.
The Plant Breeders’ Standing Committee scheduled no meetings.
However, members were involved in other SANSOR Committees’-
relating to other issues of our industry.
One specific item to be mentioned was the meeting with the
National Association of Maize Millers (NAMM) concerning maize
quality. The issues of lemon yellow, milling performance and
kernel size were discussed in detail. Some of the critical
issues – the correlation of the results of the "experimental
mills" with "commercial mills" remained unresolved at this
stage. Industry required the parties involved [Agricultural
Research Council (ARC) and NAMM] to present results on the
correlation between experimental and commercial mills.
Meetings were scheduled for May 2003 and the Seed Industry
was committed to resolve these issues mentioned.
